Kimi Raikkonen admits he could have gone faster after leading the midfield in P5 in qualifying for the German Grand Prix.

With every hundredth proving critical, the 2007 world champion held a healthy three-tenths margin over Romain Grosjean, as the pecking order shifted dramatically at Hockenheim.

“I think we could have done a faster lap but I don’t know what the times are and if it made any difference or not, but we will take it,” he explained.

The answer it is likely could have, as Raikkonen only finished 0.016s behind Pierre Gasly in fourth, after the Frenchman had his best time deleted in Q3.

Looking ahead to the race, in normal circumstances, the 39-year-old would probably try to hold on to a top-six place, but with rain forecast, any result could be possible.

“I don’t know. We will have to see how the conditions are tomorrow,” Kimi said, on if he could even dream of a podium.

“In pure race pace I think it’s impossible to say where we are, but it would be very difficult to fight against the big teams.

“But we will do our best and whatever we get we get.”
