Kimi Raikkonen is hoping this week’s post-race Barcelona test can provide answers to Alfa Romeo’s dip in form this past weekend.

The Finn’s run of points results to start 2019 came to a screeching halt as he could only manage 14th in both qualifying and the race after getting caught out in the pack through the first sequence of corners.

“It was very slippery on the mediums, and I almost spun at Turn 3,” Raikkonen explained.

“I tried to go with it but the rear didn’t want to and I almost managed to get it stopped before the edge of the tarmac but the left wheel went into the gravel. I went off then and it took a little while to get back.”

Teammate Antonio Giovinazzi was also struggling, with only the two Williams’ behind him at the chequered flag.

“We started the race from P18 and went with a bit of different strategy to try and gain some positions,” he commented.

“In the end, it didn’t work because the pace just was not there. We need to work hard to have a better package in Monaco and achieve a better result.”

The good news for Raikkonen is a full day behind the wheel on Wednesday, where the issues of the weekend can be looked at in more detail.

“Overall it was not an easy weekend for us,” Kimi added. “Pretty disappointing, but as I said, the test will hopefully help to turn things around.”
