Kimi Raikkonen had a 300th Grand Prix weekend to forget in Monaco as mechanical issues dropped him in 17th place.
Having shown good pace throughout practice, Saturday and Sunday were disastrous for Alfa Romeo with Antonio Giovinazzi the last finisher in 19th after contact with Robert Kubica at Rasscasse.
For Raikkonen though, he was left mostly at the mercy of a buccaneering car on the streets of Monte Carlo.
“We don’t know what the problem was with the differential, but I almost went in the wall a few times on exits because only one wheel was spinning – it just heated up or something,” he explained.
“It crabbed like crazy and I got sideways but we don’t know – we couldn’t see what the problem was but it was a bit odd.
“Nevertheless, those issues didn’t dictate where we finished because once you are behind other cars, you need them to have a massive issue in order to get past.”

The Finn would “try something different” by staying out until Lap 46 before pitting for tyres but that didn’t have any effect.
Instead, he was left to duel with Lance Stroll with the pair touching twice during the race.
“Obviously, I don’t know if he didn’t see me or what but it didn’t really make a difference as you just can’t get past,” Kimi added.
