Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is hoping Formula 1 continues to use Barcelona as the host for winter testing.

There is uncertainty as to whether last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix might be the last at the Catalunya track, with speculation it will be replaced by Holland next season.

The circuit president contradicted the reports, however, stating he remains confident a new deal will be done.

But regardless, Horner wants the two pre-season gatherings to stay in Spain.

“I think it would be a great shame if we don’t come back racing in Barcelona but we certainly should continue to test here,” the Red Bull boss was quoted by GPFans.com.

“I think being European-based, far enough south to have sensible weather and from a cost point of view, it’s cost-efficient for the European-based teams to come and test here.

“And it’s a good track, it’s got a combination of low-speed, medium-speed and high-speed corners, so it would be a shame if it doesn’t get utilised for at least testing duties.

“I would certainly be supportive of coming here prior to next year.”

F1 is currently taking advantage of that layout by conducting two further days of testing this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.
