Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey has joined the Veloce Racing Extreme E project, with the series launching in 2021.
The championship is the latest creation of Formula E creator Alejandro Agag and will see all-electric 4×4 SUV’s racing in five different locations with Greenland the first to be made official.
Newey, who has designed multiple championship-winning F1 cars over three decades, will join another former Red Bull member in Jean-Eric Vergne who will be driving for the Veloce team.
This new assignment marks the latest to expand beyond his duties at the Milton Keynes-based outfit, having recently helped Aston Martin develop their new Valkyrie.
“Everyone involved in Veloce Racing is extremely passionate about racing, competition and cutting-edge technology, as well as tackling environmental issues that face the world today, so we couldn’t be happier to be taking part in Extreme E,” Newey said.
“The series is an exceptional platform for developing new technology, drawing attention to the earth’s environmental challenges and driving change.
“Veloce will play an active role in as many of Extreme E’s legacy projects as possible to help regenerate the local environments. We now can’t wait to get started on our campaign.”
