Reports suggest Honda will give Red Bull an updated engine to next weekend’s French Grand Prix.

The Japanese manufacturer has already brought a ‘Spec 2’ unit this season, introducing that in Baku back in April, but the main focus was on reliability and allowing drivers to run higher modes for longer.

It is not known though if the ‘Spec 3’ will bring a performance improvement, with Red Bull themselves suggesting that may be more likely around Monza.

If true, the latest upgrade is part of Honda’s effort to bring its engine upto par with the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes, with the pace last weekend in Canada proving a decent gap remains.

The company has also already made it clear that they won’t be trying to stick by the current limit of three engines as per the regulations, with plans for five engines over the course of the season.
