Daniel Ricciardo thinks he is getting close to overcoming his early problems with Renault after practice in China.
On a day when the French manufacturer finally led the midfield, the Australian achieved that in P6 in the morning but would slip down to P9 in the afternoon.
Even so, last year’s race winner in Shanghai is starting to put the R.S.19 where he wants it and is starting to feel more at home.
“It is coming. It is there in moments,” Ricciardo was quoted by Crash.net.
“I’d say this morning was actually better for me, the afternoon less so. For sure when I do feel at one with it, I feel like I can get it going. So we just got that going more consistently.
“This morning immediately I felt quite confident on the brakes, which certainly Bahrain I was not where I wanted to be. So that was positive.
“These are things we tested during the Bahrain test. Some little things here and there that are helping towards a better direction.”

With teammate Nico Hulkenberg finishing fifth though, Renault will certainly be hoping to translate that pace into a good result, particularly after losing points due to the engine failures two weeks ago.
“We will see. We’ll have to make some improvements overnight to reaffirm that confidence,” Ricciardo commented.
“I think tomorrow we can have a good day. We have to put it all together, and it is so close in that midfield, but confident we will get it right.”
