Carlos Sainz says he would “always say yes” to a Ferrari offer as he once again denied any second thoughts about his 2021 move.
The Spaniard made his decision to leave McLaren for the Scuderia before the start of this delayed season, meaning he was unaware of the performance problems that have impacted the team in the first seven races.
Ferrari’s worst performance came this past weekend in Belgium, where 13th and 14th represented their worst result with both cars finishing since Silverstone 2010.
Yet despite the constant questions over what he makes of the Italian squad’s plight, Sainz remains defiantly positive.
“Definitely not,” Sainz said if he had any doubts on Thursday. “I’m really comfortable with the decision I’ve taken.

“I have 100 per cent confidence in Ferrari people in what they do for the future.
“Let’s just remember that last year they were capable of doing seven [ed: nine] pole positions. So it’s a team that I think knows how to produce very good cars.
“Honestly I don’t think it’s ever a bad time to go to Ferrari,” he added.
“I think coming to Ferrari is such a unique experience, and such a special place for a Formula 1 driver, that I don’t think there’s ever going to be a time where you say I do not want to go to Ferrari.
“If you give me that option 100 times again I will always say yes.”
Following the events of Spa, F1 motorsport boss Ross Brawn claimed Sainz would be “nervous” about Ferrari.
Instead, he says the only worries he has are the problems costing him this season, after failing to start Sunday’s race due to an engine problem.
“What makes me nervous is to lose 30 points through no fault of my own and that’s what concerns me right now,” he said.
“That’s what makes me go to bed and think ‘where the hell have I lost these amount of points and how is it happening to me’.
“But I’m fully confident and ready to go for Ferrari next season and I could not be more excited.”
As for his future teammate Charles Leclerc, returning to the site of his memorable win in front of the Tifosi 12 months ago, the Monegasque is also committing his future to help Ferrari return to the front.
“Well, on one hand, I don’t really have a choice but yeah, surely it will take some patience and yes, I’m ready to wait,” he said.
“But It’s also my job to try and make this whole process as short as possible and for us to come back where we deserve to be.
“So, it’s not going to be easy. It will take time, but I’m ready for this and my job is to give my best anyway in every situation we are in.”
