Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has suggested Sebastian Vettel needs a new environment away from Ferrari.

The four-time world champion has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons once again after colliding with Max Verstappen during last Sunday’s British Grand Prix.

It was yet another moment to go on the list of mistakes that he has made spanning back to crashing out of the German GP at Hockenheim 12 months ago and has only increased speculation about his future with the Italian team.

“You make mistakes when you are no longer sure of yourself,” Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko told Auto Bild. “It happens in the subconscious.

“Sebastian would have to be in a different environment. In order words, change the team, but I see no way for 2020.”

Vettel though continues to put a positive spin on what has been a disappointing season, including recent stewards’ decisions which denied he end Charles Leclerc victories.

“No. I think the other way to put it is that we have had two races where we were fighting for the win,” he said when asked if Ferrari had been “beaten up” by the race officials.

“One we arguably won, the other we missed out by small amounts so that is the positive news and I think that’s what we take from those races more than the bigger cup.”
