Sergio Perez reiterated his status as a Baku specialist with a strong drive to sixth in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Only the recovering Charles Leclerc was able to overhaul the Mexican as a much quieter race compared to recent years left no opportunity to repeat his podium heroics.
Even so, it was a result that saw Racing Point finish ‘best of the rest’ for the first time this season.
“It has been a fantastic day,” Perez commented.
“It was looking good at the start when I passed [Max] Verstappen, but we didn’t have the pace to fight against the Red Bulls over the race distance.
“I was actually focused on keeping the McLarens at bay. It was not easy to keep them behind and I had to drive carefully for the whole of the race.”

Having done so, Sergio now hopes Racing Point can push on after a respectable first four races of 2019.
“I am happy we succeeded in keeping our position, now we can celebrate a good day for the team with both cars in the points,” he said.
“We have an upgrade coming in Barcelona and I am looking forward to our performance there.”
As Perez noted there was also success across the garage too, as Lance Stroll scored his second top 10 of the year in P9.
“It’s a blast to come through the field and make up places, especially when the car is going well,” the Canadian told Sky Sports.
“It was good to get both cars in the points – it’s encouraging and a good recovery from missing most of Friday practice.”
