Toro Rosso chief Franz Tost has declared his wish to retain Daniil Kvyat and Alex Albon for 2020.
The junior Red Bull team has had a solid season in the midfield, with some good results early but has struggled to keep pace as the others have developed.
Still, Kvyat has been more consistent in what is his third spell at the team, while Albon has been one of the underrated strong performers in his rookie season.
“We have two really good drivers,” Tost stated at Hockenheim.
“Daniil Kvyat we knew from the past that he is fast, he is also matured now and he is showing a very, very good performance.
“Alex Albon, for me, is the positive surprise of the young drivers, together with [Lando] Norris.
“I think that he will have a very strong second half of the season because then he knows the car quite well, he knows what’s going on in Formula 1 and if we provide him with a proper package, I think that he will come up with really good results.
“I personally hope that we can continue with these two drivers but this, in the end, is a decision from Red Bull, and I think the decision will not be made before the end of September / the beginning of October.”

Both drivers may have an eye on the situation at the senior team where Pierre Gasly showed improvement at Silverstone but hasn’t quite repeated it at Hockenheim.
And with no real threats from the Red Bull stable, perhaps only from newly signed Patricio O’Ward, there is little reason for either driver to be unduly concerned.
