Alex Albon expects strategy to be his best chance of gaining places after an improved qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver had fewer problems reaching Q3 in Barcelona though couldn’t overhaul the two Racing Points as he claimed sixth on the grid, seven-tenths slower than teammate Max Verstappen.
“Not great but it was okay,” he said of his session to Sky Sports.
“Obviously wanted a bit more from that. I actually felt better on the used tyres on the first run than on the second run in Q3, so we’ll just have to take a look at that and see what’s going on.”

The result though does put Albon in a much better position to finish in the fourth place that arguably should be his every weekend at least.
And it follows comments by team boss Christian Horner on Friday.
“It’s his Saturdays that he needs to work on,” he also told the British broadcaster.
“Sunday afternoons, he’s doing great. His overtaking, his pace is everything you could expect, so it’s just getting him more comfortable with the car over a single lap.
“The car is tricky to drive at the moment and Max manages to drive around those problems,” Horner acknowledged.
“Hopefully we can do more to help Alex, and as soon as he finds that consistency and confidence and starts to qualify in position, then with the race pace he’s had, I think he‘ll be knocking on the door of the podium before long.”
Gaining places though is likely to be a little tougher in Barcelona, with Albon predicting very little on track.
“I think here, it’s not as easy to overtake as at Silverstone, just the way that the corners are, the lap time delta to overtake has to be pretty huge,” he explained.
“We’ll have to be imaginative, creative with strategy I think. I think most of the moves will be done on pit stops.”
