Moto2 qualifying didn't start so well for the Tech 3 team, as both riders - Xavi Vierge and Remy Gardner, went down in the very opening moments. Gardner was the first to crash, and while he was picking himself up and dusting himself off, his team mate Vierge went down in sympathy in exactly the same spot. A bizarre event, but Vierge did manage to get back out with sixteen minutes to go.

Danny Kent isn't having an ideal weekend either. He's been drafted in to replace the injured Marcel Schrotter at the Dynavolt Intact GP team, but was involved in an incident yesterday with Alex Marquez. He went to Clinica for a check up during FP3, and was diagnosed him with whiplash. He did make it out for the qualifying session, and will start from

Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) controlled the session, setting the fastest lap on his fourth try. He couldn't quite live up to his fast lap again, and came under attack from Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS). In the closing minutes, Morbidelli came close but subsequently had the lap cancelled for exceeding track limits. He went on another flying lap, and came within one thousandth of a second of Pasini's flying time, but had to settle for second in tomorrow's race with his team mate Alex Marquez in third.

Top ten:

Mattia Pasini- Italtrans Racing Team - 1:29.394

Gabriel Rodrigo (RBA BOE Racing Team) has taken his second consecutive pole position, from his team mate Juanfran Guevara and Aron Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0).

We're used to seeing Moto3 riders dawdling around the pit exit waiting for a tow, and why should today be any different? It's something that's becoming a long standing joke, and something that needs changing fast. Riders and teams clearly aren't bothered by grid place penalties, and no race disqualifications have been dished out yet - something that is stated in the new rules. A Superpole session (as used in British Superbikes) is the ideal solution, as one rider will go out at a time and there will be nobody for them to get a slipstream off.

It's not just dawdling that's catching riders out. Joan Mir (Leopard Racing) had his second place qualifying position taken away for exceeding track limits - something that we're seeing a lot of this weekend. At a crucial time in the championship, Mir has been shunted back to tenth for tomorrow's race.

Towards the end of the session, we saw a rather animated Romano Fenati (Marinelli Rivacold Snipers) waving his arms around at Fabio Di Giannantonio (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) for what seemed like no good reason. Once the session was over, both racers lined up for a practice start where we saw Fenati go off on one again, this time getting in Di Giannantonio's face and motioning for him to "just go". It bared no relevance to the overall session, but it was amusing, and showed us that an angry Fenati makes a quick practice start.

The results are still subject to change, however the provisional top ten is as follows:

  1. Gabriel Rodrigo- RBA BOE Racing Team - 1:36.503
  2. Juanfran Guevara- RBA BOE Racing Team +0.112
  3. Aron Canet- Estrella Galicia 0,0 +0.187
  4. Enea Bastianini- Estrella Galicia 0,0 +0.213
  5. John McPhee- British Talent Team +0.287
  6. Bo Bendsneyder- Red Bull KTM Ajo +0.290
  7. Andrea Migno- Sky Racing Team VR46 +0.308
  8. Philipp Oettl- Südmetall Schedl GP Racing +0.452
  9. Fabio Di Giannantonio- Del Conca Gresini Moto3 +0.464
  10. Joan Mir- Leopard Racing +0.486

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) controlled the pace of qualifying to take pole position, with both factory Ducatis snapping at his tail. Andrea Dovizioso put in a last minute attempt and it worked out fantastically for the Italian, who qualified in second. Jorge Lorenzo rounds out the front row, taking his first front row start since Catalunya.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) has had a tough day after being extremely quick in the first two practice sessions. His pace seems to have deteriorated, and he had to make his way through Q1 which he navigated successfully. He was off the pole pace by 0.7 seconds, and will start from the middle of the third row tomorrow.

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) will start from seventh, which isn't ideal for the nine-time World Champion. However, we all know that Rossi is a Sunday man, and a third row start will not affect his chances of coming through the pack to win the race.

Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) was on for a personal best lap, which saw him shoot from the fourth row to the second. Unfortunately for the Brit, his lap time was cancelled for exceeding track limits. He didn't manage to put in faster lap, so will start tomorrow's race from ninth on the grid.

  1. Marc Marquez- Repsol Honda Team - 1:23.235

Thomas Luthi (CarXpert Interwetten) dominated the final Moto2 practice session, from Francesco Bagnaia (Sky Racing Team VR46) and Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team).

A small off from Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in the first few minutes of the session didn't phase him at all, as he finished the session in fifth, putting him in a good position for a KTM home win as we head into qualifying. Championship leader Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) ended the session in seventh, and looks as if he may come under fire from Luthi in the race on Sunday.

Luthi has had incredible pace all weekend, and will surely be one to watch on Sunday.
