Marc Marquez topped FP3 as the fog began to clear, from Maverick Viñales and Dani Pedrosa.

Early on in the session, Johann Zarco took a trip into the gravel but he was thankfully okay and managed to get back out on track. His team mate Jonas Folger suffered the same fate later in the session. His crash was an odd one - he tried to save it but ended up getting spat off, and it looked as if his throat hit off the screen of the bike. He got up and walked away, but was holding his neck.

Riders went into the pits for soft tyres, and when they came back out it was a battle for the top spot. There are some surprises in the top ten - Alvaro Bautista fourth, Aleix Espargaro seventh and Andrea Iannone ninth. But Valentino Rossi truly stole the show, putting in a lap just 0.9s off Marquez' pace to claim the final top ten spot - a real comeback for The Doctor.

Mika Kallio made a show of the two permanent factory KTM riders, ending the session in fifth. Kallio has been impressive all weekend, and Bradley Smith could well be out of a job if Kallio's form continues.

Some high profile names were missing from the top ten, including Jorge Lorenzo who only just missed out in eleventh, Danilo Petrucci, Johann Zarco and Jonas Folger. They will all have to go out into Q1.

  1. Marc Marquez, Repsol Honda Team - 1:48.252
  2. Maverick Viñales, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP +0.310
  3. Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda Team +0.431
  4. Alvaro Bautista, Pull&Bear Aspar Team +0.531

Dani Pedrosa went quickest on Day 1 at MotorLand Aragon, mastering the tricky mixed conditions to head to the top in FP2.

Intermittent rain interrupted the sessions, and the 'Baby Samurai' - winner at the track in 2012 - is eager to see what changes tomorrow brings in terms of the weather.

"I’m happy with this day, even if it was obviously a bit strange." Said the Spaniard "Both times when we were preparing to go on track, it started to rain and we had to change setup and tyres"

"As it happened, we never had the opportunity to fit the slicks and didn’t do a lot of laps in the rain either because the track was wet, though not too much."

"This afternoon in particular, the last part of the track was almost dry, the long corner and the straight, and the tyres warmed up quite a lot." Added Pedrosa

"Tomorrow we’ll see which conditions we’ll have and what feeling we’ll be able to find"

As FP3 got underway at a misty MotorLand, riders were lapping in the 2:01s, but visibility seemed to be no problem.

Eventually, the riders got into a rhythm, and Jorge Martin toppped the time sheets from John McPhee, who put in a last ditch attempt to get to the top. Championship leader Joan Mir finished the session in third. There were a couple of high profile crashes, including Aron Canet, who was spat off into the gravel from a nasty highside and Philipp Oettl also suffered a nasty crash. Both riders were okay, but taken to the medical centre.

Another impressive run from Dennis Foggia on the Sky VR46 Junior Academy bike. At his first GP, he's put in a range of fantastic laps and could well be a front runner come race day. Romano Fenati finished the session in eleventh, after running out of fuel.

Yamaha's Valentino Rossi is making miracles with his Aragon comeback, missing only his home round at Misano after breaking his tibia and fibula.

The nine-time World Champion assessed the day's running - affected by varying degrees of adverse weather - after riding his M1 for the first time following the crash.

"I’m not so bad, I am quite happy because I don’t feel a lot of pain now so the leg is good and it is good to see also." Said the Doctor

"I feel comfortable on the bike, I don’t have a particular problem – I feel a bit of pain, but not too much."

"For sure in the wet it is a bit easier because you don’t have to push to the maximum, so I am very curious to understand my condition in the dry, but I hope for tomorrow to be better because we have to work on the bike so I can understand if I can be competitive.

"Today was good. Bad conditions because it always rained just before the start, but there was not a lot of rain, so half-and-half, meaning it was not so easy."

"We need to wait, we need to understand the leg in the dry, but the positive thing is that after one day it is still okay."
