Marc Marquez  just missed out on stealing the headlines at the Brno test when Valentino Rossi took over at the top in the final minutes, but the rider from Cervera was only 0.018 behind his great Italian rival and was happy with the day’s work.

Putting in 67 laps with a best of 1:55.180, Marquez concentrated on getting ready for the Austrian GP, which could be a more difficult track for the Championship leader.

"I’m really happy with how the day went in general. It was good from the start, the temperature was good and the track had a lot of grip." Said Marquez

"The laps came easily and it was easy to get into a rhythm – great conditions to be testing in. We tried to find a setup for Austria."

"I think we have an idea, we want to get better in accelerating and have less wheelie." He added "But then we also have to take into account braking stability. Other than that we also tested some things with the electronics, and the front tyre."

Jorge Lorenzo couldn’t have been much more positive after the Brno test, saying it was an incredibly important day for him – maybe the best of the year so far.

Finding some setup solutions and some more speed, the five-time World Champion also continued used the new aero fairing unveiled during the Czech GP – saying it’s definitely a positive and gives him more front end confidence.

Lorenzo ended the day fourth after 55 laps, with a best of 1:55.542.

"Today was perhaps the most important day of the year for me. I had an excellent feeling with the bike and am very satisfied." Sai Lorenzo

"Already in the race weekend we were very competitive but today we improved even more: it’s true that the track was probably in a better condition than the previous days, but we found some set-up solutions that are better for my riding style and they allowed me to push even harder and go even quicker."

"My feeling with the new fairing continues to be very good, because it gives me more confidence in the front." He added "It depends on riding style for each rider, but it’s definitely a help to me. We tried the new Michelin front tyres, but there’s no improvement on the standard one."

Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales ended the Brno test in third after having been a leader on the timesheets for most of the day, putting in 69 laps with a best of 1:55.335.

A big headline saw the rider from Roses try a new aero fairing that broke cover, concentrating on acceleration, as well as carbon forks. And Vinales didn’t try the new 2018 tyres Michelin brought to the test, preferring to concentrate on the feeling with the rubber available now.

"We tried a new fairing to favour acceleration. In Austria acceleration is very important, especially to get a good laptime." Said the Spaniard

"We improved, I feel happy on the bike again. We also tried some new settings with the electronics. I’m very happy." He surmised

"The carbon forks feel lighter, but the effect wasn’t the one we wanted, with what we’ll try in Austria we’ll see how it goes. We didn’t try the new Michelin tyres, we wanted to keep the feeling with these." concluded Vinales

Cal Crutchlow pitted in a good window at the Czech GP, although later than eventual winner Marc Marquez, and was neck and neck with Marquez' teammate Dani Pedrosa as they headed back out on slicks.

But the Brit got caught battling Danilo Petrucci. Fighting hard to try and keep a shot at the podium, Crutchlow found Pedrosa able to pull away, before Maverick Vinales was also able to do the same.

He did escape Petrucci but on the final lap it came down to Coventry vs Tavullia, and Valentino Rossi pipped Crutchlow to the line - but the LCR rider took a solid P5, and came home top Independent Team rider.

"It would have been nice to battle with Pedrosa for the podium. " Said Crutchlow "I came in when he came in and he did a better job of passing (Danilo) Petrucci on the restart than me."

"It was so difficult to pass the Ducati and once he (Pedrosa) got in front he was able to go and it took me ten more laps than him. Once I got past Petrucci I was also able to go harder, but Maverick had already passed me."

"I’m pleased with the weekend overall, to finish in the top five in Brno is good. But I did want the podium, I aimed for the podium and I didn’t get it so obviously I’m not best pleased." He added

"My team did a great job all weekend, so we have to thank Honda and the LCR team and now we go to Austria next week looking to do a good job."
